Manual for FalconSX accessory Ver 1.0:
-------------------------------------
I spent some time on coding this accessory and as I am a studant I thought
that shareware is a good way to get little money from my work.
So, FalconSX is shareware that is, if you use it you must register as a user.
For the registration fee, send me the amount of money that you feel acceptable
for the work I have done ( don't forget that I have to spend some money to
send you by mail the registred version).
If you find that my accessory is usefull PLEASE REGISTER.
To do so:
send me the registration fee (a money order) and a stamped self
addressed envelope to :
Boyeau Stephane
Chemin de Canteperdrix
911 route du village
06810 Auribeau/Siagne
FRANCE
You will then receive the last version of FalconSX by Email if you have this
possibility or by mail.
YOU CAN'T SAVE YOUR PREFERENCES IN THAT SHAREWARE VERSION OF FALCONSX !
What is FalconSX ?
------------------
This is a small but usefull (I hope !) accessory to set all the hardware
settings of your Atari FALCON and more.
These are:
* CPU & BLITTER clock rates (8/16Mhz)
* BUS type (Falcon bus or STE bus)
* CPU CACHE activation/deactivation
* Sweep freq. of the VIDEL 78/50Hz
* Internal IDE Harddrive ON/OFF
* Sound VOLUME
* Sound CONNECTION in BACKGROUND (ADC to DAC for ex.)
* RESET the Sound sub-system
* See the COOKIE Jar
* Have short INFORMATION on a Cookie
* Have a look to the system CRASH page
* LOCK your computer while not working with it
* Have information on space used on drives
YOU CAN'T SAVE YOUR PREFERENCES IN THAT SHAREWARE VERSION OF FALCONSX !
How to intall FalconSX ?
------------------------
Just copy FALCONSX.ACC and FALCONSX.RSC to the root of your boot drive.
Then reboot.
Never separate the .acc from the .rsc file !!!
NEVER MODIFY THE RSC FILE IN ANY MANER. THIS WILL HAVE THE EFFECT OF LOCKING
DEFINITIVELY THE ACCESSORY !
Files that you must have (or you have an uncomplete version...):
- FALCONSX.ACC
- FALCONSX.RSC
- CKINF.FSX
- FALCONSX.INF
- FALCONSX.DOC
- CHANGES.DOC
------------------
| Some details ! |
------------------
CPU CACHE:
---------
some programs don't like the cache and you have to disable it.
FCOPYPRO copy function doesn't work if you enable the cache for
example. If you have some old prgs which doesn't work try them
again with the cache disabled. It may work again...
IDE HD ON/OFF:
-------------
the internal optional IDE HD can be switched off if you think
that it wont be used for a long time. Usefull for example if
you use an external SCSI HD and don't use the internal IDE.
(it will make its life longer !)
SWEEP FREQ.:
-----------
If you're tired of getting red eyes full of blood watching your
50 Hz monitor all the day long, just get to the comfortble 78Hz
vert. freq. rate !
BUT BE CAREFULL ! NEVER USE IT ON NON MULTISYNC MONITORS !!!!
SOUND SETTINGS:
--------------
to make the link between the microphone input to the headphone
output socket just select 'Microphone' and a sampling freq.
between 9-50Khz and click on the 'SET !' button.
This is a very convenient way to make your FALCON030 getting
sound from the microphone input out to the headphone output in
background without slowdown. This doesn't lock the sound sub
system. So, you can run a program which needs to lock it.
After aborting the program, the link works again.
To hear a sampler or a .MOD player ( all the sounds coming from
internal) you must select the 'PSG' button.
RESET SOUND SUB SYSTEM:
----------------------
If you have a problem with sound, reset it !
COOKIES:
-------
Very usefull for coders. May tell you what you have in your
computer and what is your hardware set.
To have some information on a cookie name, just click in the cookie
box containing the cookie you want information on.
SYSTEM CRASH PAGE:
-----------------
When your computer crashes, it saves some infomation (registers
, stack values, crash vector ...).
This information stay resident even if you reset your computer.
It will get lost only if you power off.
So, after a crash and after rebooting, you can take a look at this
crash page by simply clicking on the 'System crash page' button.
LOCK THE SESSION:
----------------
Your brother is a destructive agent ?
Don't want to shut off your computer but you just want to lock it
for some minutes ?
Use this option !
First of all, introduce a new password bye selecting the 'Lock
session' button ( main menu ) and then selecting the 'Enter New
passwd' button.
The default old password is 'avions'. Enter it and then you will be
asked to enter the new one.
It will be saved in the FALCONSX.INF file in encoded form. So don't
forget it !
If you don't remember your password, delete the file FALCONSX.INF
and then reboot to reset the password to 'avions'.
NB:
If you try to reboot while FALCONSX is in locked mode, you will not be
able to reach the desktop cause FALCONSX will lock this access until you
enter the password.
BUT, remember that FALCONSX can be disabled by a boot program like XBOOT.
DFREE:
-----
A simple way of having by graphics a nice look to all your
disk/partition used space.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
